Valeriia Kalchenko, 32 years old.

She was born in Stakhanov, Luhansk region. She grew up in Kyiv.

She studied directing at the Karpenko-Kary Kyiv National University of Theater, Film, and Television and at Wajda School (Warsaw), at the Studio Prob Film Faculty.

In 2016, her feature short film "Say Popcorn!" took first place in the short-film competition "Ukraine. The Way to Peace".

The film "It Was Showering in Manchester", co-directed with Antonio Lukic, won the award "Best Short Film" in the national competition of the Odessa IFF 2016.

In 2020, she won the Golden Whirlwind National Film Award in the Best Screenplay nomination (with A. Lukic) for the film My Thoughts Are Quiet.

Her feature short film project “Hermit-crab – the Master of Escape” won the 13th pitching of the Ukrainian State Film Agency the same year.
